“Never say never” - Justin Bieber

I agree with this powerful statement from the Biebs in most circumstances - but this is probably one of the only times you will hear me say, as a Health Coach, NEVER to something. To kick off the 10 Reasons for Weight Gain, and this week’s topic for “Fettle Friday”, we are learning about Artificial Sweeteners so continue reading on to learn why I say NEVER have them in your daily consumption of foods // beverages.

They seem like such a good option, right? And there are so many to choose from that it makes the process of getting away from table sugars // processed sugars an easier task to accomplish. I wish, oh how I wish, that were true. But the thing is, they are just as bad as processed sugars. Again, this is one of the ONLY times you will ever hear me say NEVER to consuming something and here’s why:

They are 200-700 times sweeter than natural sugar.

What does that mean?

When we eat that much sweetness without substance your body goes looking for it. It ignites and stimulates the pleasure response in your brain, which triggers the desire for more (think addiction response). It creates the same triggers in the body that Processed Sugar does. Internally, it throws off your Gut balance (which, when the bad bacteria is overpowering the good it desires more Refined Carbohydrates and Sweetness), it leaves your body feeling malnourished and unsatisfied and creates an addiction response.

By consuming Artificial Sweeteners, we are only tricking our minds to think that they’re good for our bodies - and - the truth is there really is no place for them.

Did you know…

Artificial Sweeteners are linked to:

  • Obesity
  • Type 2 Diabetes
  • Cancer
  • Stroke
  • Higher Waist Circumference

You can’t beat the system.

In the Sweat from Home Health and Wellness Program, you will learn how to rid your body of cravings and harmful ingredients and how to feed your body what it truly wants and needs (and each of us have specific wants and needs internally). One thing you can take away from this, without going through the program, is that everyone’s body does not need Artificial Sweeteners and you will be doing yourself a service by cutting them out of your day to day nutrition plan. Instead, focus on NATURAL sweeteners: Honey, Agave, PURE Maple Syrup, Fruits (especially Dates and Tropical Fruits) and in moderation Stevia, Xylitol and Sucralose (those are sugar alcohols and derived from plants so they digest slower, meaning they don’t raise insulin levels like Processed Sugars do).

Never say never… except to Artificial Sweeteners, then say never 😉

See ya next week!
